Your opinion on Education and Experience?

An Trebil: Everyone needs a knowledge base (education) about teaching and classroom management strategies, as well as test preparation, among others. A teacher in training can be an excellent student, making high grades in every course, but that does not guarantee he or she can teach. That is why colleges and universities provide field experiences and internships (real life experience). Planning a lesson is one thing. Implementing that lesson in a class of 30 students is quite different. Some preservice teachers do quite well without a lot of experience. I call them "born" teachers. Others need substantial time in the field. I call them "trained teachers". Both can be excellent. I was not a born teacher, but once I got into the rhythm of teaching and managing a class, I became an excellent trained teacher. And there are those who go into teaching because they say they love children or because Mom was a teacher and has influenced them to follow suit. These a! re not good reasons. Yes. you should love children, but love is a broad term that could mean many things. The best teachers in my experience are firm, but friendly. Students know they are loved (cared for), but they also know the teacher is in charge and is competent to teach them.
