Joellen Zorrilla: You were told right about gardening soothing the soul. It' a passion of mine! Gardening is not as difficult as you might. First pick your spot for you garden. There are flowers that thrive in shade, and ones that thrive in full sun. Try not to mix the two. Prepare your ground. Till, or hoe the soil. Remove any grass, rocks, and weeds. If your soil is "rich", meaning dark, and earthy smelling, chances are you won't need to mix in any fertilizers of any kind. If you ! have what I call "dead dirt" which is hard and clumpy, and pale in color, then you may want to mix in some enriched soil product from your local plant nursery. Since you are a novice in the gardening world, you would probably want to purchase plants rather than seed. Seeds are wonderful, and I use them all the time. It really depends on how quickly you want results. It is heart warming to put seeds in the ground, and see seedlings, then plant, then beautiful bloom!!!!! But you may want faster results, as seeds take a bit! Either way, simply weed regularly, water if you haven't had rain in awhile, and things are looking droopy. Water only during morning or evening hours. Harse sunlight will suck the moisture you put in quickly, and do more harm than good. Plant with tallest towards the back, working your way forward to smaller plants. Give your garden lots of love, and while you are, your mind will be at peace!!!! This I can Promise. There is nothing like working the soil, a! nd seeing your work pay off with beautiful blooms!!!!! Or deli! cious veggies!!!! A vegetable garden is just as simple. Most garden veggies grow in full sun the best. Not too many shade ones. Work your soil, and you will most likely want to enrich it with fertilizer. Put in you tomato plants, squash, cucumber, peppers, whatever you want. Just remember some are vine plant, and will crawl the ground. If you prefer seed, use seed!!!! But it is best not to water a veggie garden! Once you start, your garden will expect it!!!!!!!!!! Wait for rain! Trust me! Good luck! Happy Gardening!...Show more
