Ileen Oshell: The Sony HDR-CX260V is an entry-level, consumer grade, high video compression camcorder.A more reasonable "camcorder good for independent filmmakers" is more along the lines of a Sony HDR-FX1000, Canon XHA1 or Panasonic AG-HVX200.The last indie set I was on (I shoot the behind the scenes stuff), the Director chose to use a RED Epic. Before that, it was a Panasonic AG-HVX200. The original "Paranormal Activity" was shot with a Sony HDR-FX1 (or FX1000).Large lens filter diameter; Large 3CCD or 3CMOS imaging chip and XLR audio connections (better yet, external audio recording). That said, any camcorder can record decent video under good lighting conditions. But with the camcorder you listed, you will need to add lots of light unless all scenes are shot during the day in nice bright sunlight. And you will need to use an external audio recording system and synch the audio when you edit.To answer your question directly: No....Show more
