We just purchased a Safety 1st Car Seat with no Manual. Does any one have one for this particular model?

Octavio Roylance: go to your local fire dept. theu will show you how it works and how it is to be installed

Dallas Bartolini: Did you buy this new or used? If it is new you should definitely let the store know that there was no manual with the seat! Also, whether it is new or used call Dorel Juvenille group (makers of Safety First) immediately and have them send you a manual. Please wait until you have the printed instructions before you attempt installing this seat. Incorrect installation is risking your child's life!

Rachell Meese: firestation would probably be the best way to go

Alexis Reyer: In the back there should be a spot to fish the seatbelt through, if you cannot get the manual, take it to the nearest police station, they usually will install for you. Call the company or get another car seat. I think that you should be able to just adjust the top part (head rest) down for a smaller baby. Hope this helped

Rosann Mccomb: Have you tried the ! company's website? They may have this information.

Joey Mekeel: Its just a Safety1st Intera (made in 2006) with a different cover than usual. My first question would be WHY don't you have manual? Did you purchase it used? If so, there's some things you should know. Its actually unsafe to get a used car seat unless it is coming from a trusted friend or relative and you are 100% positive:1)it has never been in any wreck2)it has all the original pieces, including manual3)it has never been dropped, which means never been checked as luggage at the airport, either, since this frequently happens when checked or gate checked .4)it is less than 6 years old5)the straps have never been completely submerged or washed with anything other than mild soap(it messes up the flame retardent treatment) If you wouldn't trust the seller with your child's life, don't buy a car seat from them. For $40 you can get a Cosco Scenera from Walmart. It rear faces to a whopping 35lbs, which is impor! tant b/c kids should stay rear facing as long as possible, the! American Academy of Pediatrics says keep them rear facing preferably for their first 2 years of life. Then it goes to 40lbs front facing. It won't last child as long forward facing as some others, but for $40, its a great deal. Or, call your local police station and ask about car seats. Most have programs in place to give free/inexpensive car seat to families that need them. If you did purchase it new, definitely call Dorel (Safety1st 's parent company) and request a new one. One MAJOR thing to consider before deciding to keep this seat - like many of Dorel/Cosco/Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seats (all the same company) for forward facing the headrests in your vehicle MUST be tall enough to support the back of the child seat. To test if you will get the most use out of this seat, raise the head rest and harness to the highest position, and then raise your vehicle headrest to the highest position. To be able to use the child seat in the tallest setting your vehicle's head rest MUS! T come to at least the middle of the Intera's headerst. If it doesn't, return it, you won't get much use out of it once you turn the seat forward facing. If you keep the seat - follow the labels on the sides. There should be labels next to each belt path, telling you which to use it for. There will be TWO belt paths, one for rear facing and one for forward facign. Make sure you use the correct one and route the belt through. It WILL be difficult - one thing cheaper seats generally have in common is difficulty fitting your hand through those skinny sharp slots to get the belt routed and buckled. You do NOT detach the headrest. One of the seats main redeemable qualities is that it goes to 35lbs rear facing. However, big let down - it only goes to 40lbs forward facing. Then you MUST Remove the harness and use it as a booster. Also, the harness slots are short enough that most kids will only make it to age 2-3 before they outgrow the seat by height long before they outgrow it b! y weight. So its definitely not a seat that you get a lot of bang for y! our buck.. Also, its worth mentioning that the bare minimum for safe booster use is 4 years AND 40lbs, though experts recommend waiting until a child is at least 5 before putting him in a booster seat, so when your child outgrows the harness at 2-3 years old, you will be stuck out shopping for another harnessed seat.If you bought it new and have the box - check it out. If it doesn't mention LATCH capable or comes with LATCH strap, or lower anchor strap, then it didn't come with a LATCH strap to use with it. Basic install instructions for most seats:There's a pic in this thread of the seat installed rear facing, without the base: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=21865&hig...1)find the right belt path2)route seatbelt through it, buckle3)put your knee in the seat and add some pressure. Assuming your car is newer than '97, and a switchable ALR/ELR shoulder/lap belt (most are, but some aren't, check links below for help figuring it out) pull the shoulder belt slowly all! the way out until it stops. 4)slowly feed the shoulder belt back in, it should click letting you know its locking and you won't be able to pull it back out. Keep feeding it in until there's no more slack. 5)knee outta the seat - grip the seat at the belt path and tug with one hand, if it moves less than 1" in any direction, you're done. If it moves 1" or more, knee back in the seat, unbuckle the belt but don't pull it out of the path. Feed the shoulder belt in for another 2 clicks, no more. Rebuckle. It will take pressure to rebuckle, but then should be tight.TIPS: remember to NEVER use anything underneath the car seat. That means no car seat mats. It can give the illusion of a good install when its not, or make it more diffictul to install. If you just can't get a good or tight installation, remove the base. That part you'll really need the manual for. The base on this seat is a pain - and frequently the only way to get a good install is to take it off.You did not ask, but! if I may make a suggestion of a much better seat:Evenflo Triumph Advanc! e The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big! for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon. The Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon (These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model) can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. The Marathon a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. I can get it into 4 different vehicles in under 2 minutes. Because of the way the base is made, it fits in most cars. And, it is worth the money, b/c it lasts usually twice as long as most other car seats (all car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture) lasting a baby till they are 5-6 years old, where most at Walmart will only last till 2-4 years old. Rear faces to 33lbs, then forward to 65lbs. and top slots 17inches tall, lasts most kids to ag! es 5-6 years old. Britax is having one of their semiannual sales from ! February 24 - March 2. You could snag a Britax seat for $200 or less including shipping! And when shopping, Remember these rules:1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.2)Children should stay rear facing AS LNOG AS POSSIBLE!!!! The 20lbs/1 year rule is outdated and provides a bare minimum for turning kids forward facing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both recommend keeping kids rear facing as long as possible, up to the limits of their seat, preferably until at least 2 years of age. For good reason: A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before! then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. In other countries, rear facing 2 - 3 - 4 year olds is standard, they understand that its safer. Here, we turn them as soon as we get to, seeing it as a right of passage thing or something. Ridiculous. Most convertible seats have a 30lbs rear facing limit, Cosco/Dorel/Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seats rear face to 35lbs, Britax rear faces to 33lbs.3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c m! ost car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is ! in the 95th% for height and weight - 40" tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I'd have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one....Show more
