Can you be denied employment because you changed your name?

Nell Dipiero: If you have all the documentation of your name change, then no, you cannot be denied unemployment (or anything else for that matter) because you were once Pepsi Cola, and now you're (insert appropriately gendered name) Smith. If you're a woman, it would be the same as getting married and taking your husband's name; you were Jennifer Smith, and now you're Jennifer Jones. A legal name change is just that, a legal name change. You are who you are, not who you were. You can be denied unemployment for a great many things, but this isn't one of them. Tereasa Sorensen: No, you cannot be denied employment or anything else. Lots of people change their names! It isn't that uncommon.Don't know where you got that idea to begin with.
