Do you need pet insurance?

Walter Scordino: no

George Dingeldein: Several times I wished I had pet insurance, one vet trip for my dog totaled $1500! My son's cat cost him close to $2000 for a broken leg. Pets are part of the family, yet there are times when without insurance to cover the costs we instead opt to have them put down, sad really.

Chet Nozick: I have purebred cats, one is a CFA Grand Champion. I have also done some cat rescue. and I have an accidental dog. I don't buy pet insurance, it's not REAL insurance, and I don't think it's cost effective.

Ambrose Mumma: I'd say that if you have a mutt, you can likely skip the insurance and pay no more over the life of the dog than you would in premiums. If you have a purebred, you might benefit from insurance as they often are predisposed to certain conditions and diseases and generally cost more over their lifetime.
