Whitney Saborido: Depending in the info you gave, they will give you a set amount. Like my EFC was 0 and I got 2000 dollars. The school will take what they need for tuition and then give you a check with the remaining amount on it. With this money you can buy anything you want, for instance, paying for your dorm and meal ticket. Like I bought all of my books and supplies and then with the extra money I had I bought a laptop.Good luck at school. It is also wise to keep some of the left over money in case of emergencies....Show more
Gaylord Barragan: An EFC score is a financial aid index. It is used by the financial aid office at your school to compare your financial aid need with the need of all of the other financial aid applicants who attend there. Your school will use it to determine what forms of aid you are eligible for, but your actual aid offer will depend on considerations other than just your EFC score.Your EFC score of zero indicates that you have demonstrat! ed "exceptional need". That classification applies to about 1/3 of all of the financial aid applicants each year. Applicants who demonstrate exceptional need are eligible for the special "need-based" forms of financial aid. These include the government's educational grant programs (Pell, ACG, FSEOG and SMART), the federal work study program, the Perkins Loan and the subsidized Stafford.Unfortunately, only one of those need-based programs is automatically guaranteed to you - that's the Pell Grant. The other programs are limited funds programs, which simply means that your school has received an annual allocation of money from the US Department of Education. Generally, this isn't sufficient to award these discretionary forms of assistance to all of the students who qualify - so your school must determine how to award those supplementary funds as equitably as possible. The chances that you will receive any of those funds are partially determined by the financial need of all of! your other classmates. Will you get "everything paid for?" Pro! bably not. The EFC is NOT "how much you need to pay", regardless of what anyone else might tell you. You will be responsible for paying the difference between your school's Cost of Attendance, and the amount of financial aid that your school has available for you.The estimated Cost of Attendance for a year at Central Washington is $17,814. That represents a best guess of what it will cost you to pay for tuition, fees, books, room and board, a transportation allowance, and a personal expenses allowanceAs the financial aid website explains, CWU attempts, as best as possible, to meet the financial aid "need" of every student. However, as they further explain, that doesn't mean "free money", or that you're going to go to school for free. Your aid offer package will consist of any federal aid that you are eligible for (including the Work Study program) plus any scholarships that you're able to qualify for on your own. The rest will come from loans - both loans available to you a! nd loans available to your parents. Even students with no present ability to pay are expected to make an investment in their future by borrowing to help cover the cost of their own education. The degree that you'll earn will enable you to get a good job - and the income from that job will be used to pay back the loans that enabled it.For more information about CWU's financial aid program, I highly recommend their own 30-page handbook, which can be found here: http://www.cwu.edu/~finaid/handbook.pdfGood luck!...Show more
